Best Time to Visit Satpura National Park

When planning a trip to the Satpura National Park it is very important to know about its timing. From the best time to visit to closing time everything needs to be known. As the weather changes the forest also changes from green to yellow during leaf fall and also there is change in the behaviour of the animals. So there might be different experiences depending on which season you are planning to go. This beautiful forest in Madhya Pradesh is home to tigers, leopards, Indian bison, wild dogs, and spotted deer. Also more than 300 species of birds can be found so here is a guide where there is season wise breakdown that will help you decide the best time for the Satpura tour.

The Best Season at a Glance

The months of November to May, that is the winter and summer months, are said to be the best time to visit Satpura National Park. In the winter months there is more crowd as the weather is pleasant and your chances of spotting wildlife are the highest. But the park remains open from October to June.

Winter (November to February) - The Perfect Wildlife Time

During this period of time the days are warm and the nights are cool making it a pleasant weather to explore the jungle. The trees and bushes are less dense hence it makes it easier to spot the tiger, leopard and other animals. The cool weather makes animals more energetic and they come out to find food and water more often. This is the best time for bird watching as many beautiful migratory birds from cold countries fly to Satpura for the winter.

What to Pack: Carry warm clothes like jackets, sweaters, and caps for the early morning safari as it can be quite chilly.

Summer (March to June) - For the True Wildlife Enthusiast

This is the top season for seeing the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger as the summer sun gets hotter and water becomes scarce. Animals gather around the few remaining waterholes and the chances of spotting the tiger along with other wildlife increases. Also there is a chance to spot the reptiles and amphibians near the water bodies. But make sure to apply sunscreen and carry water bottles as the days get very hot during May and June so be prepared for the strong sun in the afternoon.

What to Pack: Wear light-colored, cotton clothes. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are absolute must-haves. Carry plenty of drinking water.

Monsoon (July to September) - The Closed Season

The Satpura National Park is closed for tourists during the monsoon season, from July to September. This region receives heavy rainfall making the jeep safaris impossible to move due to muddy and slippery roads. This is also an important time for animals to breed and raise their young in peace hence the park remains closed to protect them. The rain helps the forest grow fresh grass and plants
